Car info:
We tried to buy this car nearly 20 years before we finally brought it
home. After being tucked away for many years it re-appeared. After
agreeing to a purchase price and missing left front fender, hood hinges
and a grill, I managed to drive it home. The top was ripped nearly off
the frame and rust had taken over the quarters and front fenders. It
had been hit in the passenger door and carried on to the rear bumper.
Interior was there but very weathered and torn. In a TWO year marathon
rebuild my wife and kids allowed me to take on its complete rebuild.
With instructions from a friend in the business, I cut and replaced the
panels with new metal. Removed body from frame and cleaned and replaced
every nut and bolt. Engine was cleaned and dressed up. Chassis was
rebuilt to new specs with disk brakes and body replaced. Paint was
applied to all and my parents helped with replacing the upholstery. We
did have the convertible top replaced professionally but everything
else was done by the owner and family. We added power steering, tilt
steering wheel, power brakes, padded dash, cruise control, 700R4 and
new Boyd/Cragger wheels and all new rubber. This car was driven an
average of 3500 miles a year until we built our 70 Chevelle a couple
years ago. We now reserve our time with my second love, when the
weather is better suited. Although this car has been finished for
nearly 20 years she still looks good and enjoyed by all. |
